Engineering Day at WCS

Engineering Day - James Smith
WCS 7th Graders Listening to Instruction from Lockheed Engineer Mr. James Smith

Students grades 6-12 at Weatherford Christian School participated Monday in an Engineering Day studying physics and mechanical engineering using a medieval catapult built by James Smith, an engineer from Lockheed Martin who also hosted the event.  Mr. Smith even dressed the part, in honor of Spirit Week which is being held this week to celebrate WCS’ Homecoming.  Students discussed what made the catapult work, how it could be altered to adjust the throws, and also discussed history of catapults.  Each class formed teams and launched water-balloons, softballs, and soccer balls to test their theories as well as their skills and winners for distance and height were announced last night at the school’s bonfire.
