At the Lone Star Guns Gallery & Gear in Weatherford, Springtown native Rhiann Travis signed a letter of intent to Ohio State University Thursday evening, cementing the next step in becoming a force to be reckoned with when it comes to shooting rifles.

Joining the Buckeye Rifle Team, Travis has managed to break multiple records in different domestic organizations such as the American Legion and NRA.

She’s won a silver medal in Women’s Air Rifle at the 2015 USAS Junior Olympics, silver and gold medals in the 2014 Winter Air Gun finals and placed 11th overall in the national World Cup selection standings.

Her talent has gotten her both athletic and academic scholarship offers to her college of choice.

The even more impressive part is that she has been competing in the overall air rifle sport for less than five years.

Considered the number one recruit in her high school class at Weatherford Christian School, Travis attributes her rise to the top to the mentality she has.

“I like the mindset you have to have, it appeals to me,” Travis said.

“I wanna be the best that I can,” she added.

Ohio State is going to somewhat of a culture change.
